A day trip from LA to San Diego will be the highlight of your Southern California trip.
Your tour will start right at the doorsteps of your hotel or Airbnb, where our friendly and knowledgeable tour guide will pick you up in a luxury vehicle. It will take about two hours to get to San Diego while you can relax and learn some interesting facts about the state and the hidden gem you’re about to see.
Your first stop will be in a truly magical place called La Jolla. The coastal area of this oceanfront village is an absolute natural jewel in the heart of civilization. Look around and see the beautiful seals lying on the beach, taking in the sun. Look up; can you see the majestic pelicans flying in the sky? These beautiful creatures are only a small part of La Jolla’s rich wildlife. Walking through the town, we will find ourselves on the main street the locals call Rodeo Drive. This is the perfect spot for shopping, beautiful art galleries, luxury hotels, and hip restaurants that will satisfy even the pickiest eaters. Take your time and try absorbing as much of the city as possible. La Jolla is a mesmerizing place, full of life, sun, and laughter. After that, we will go up to the city’s highest observation deck: Mount Soledad, the best spot for people who enjoy nothing more than admiring the cityscape from above.
Our next stop will be the utterly charming Coronado Island. This place is famous for its “Del Coronado” hotel, where «Some Like It Hot,» the 1959 movie starring the ever-beautiful Marilyn Monroe, was filmed. This architectural wonder was built in 1888 and still stands tall today. Coronado Island is also famous for its old mansions, yachts, luxurious hotels, and white sandy beach.
We’ll then discover the historical center, aka the Gaslamp Quarter! Famous for its nightlife, Downtown San Diego is populated with theaters, nightclubs, music halls, and various restaurants, all in restored Victorian buildings. Walking around, it will be impossible to miss “Unconditional Surrender,” the sculpture of an American sailor kissing a nurse. If you’re more of a museum buff, don’t worry, either. Visit the Maritime Museum, where famous ships, such as “The Star of India,” the Soviet submarine B-39, and the USS Midway aircraft carrier are exhibited.
The final spot we’ll explore during the day will be Balboa Park, known for being the heart and soul of the city. We will walk through its small, picturesque alleys, where the beauty of architecture will take your breath away.

I first doubted if I wanted to spend 12 hours on this trip, but then we took LA City Tour with USA VIP Tours and were more than pleased with the service. Overall, it was a great introduction to San Diego so you could decide where you wanted to go back and spend more time. We had a great time visiting the popular attractions and checking out some hidden gems too. Our guide Mike showed us a great restaurant for lunch with unbelievable views! Highly recommend it to anyone looking to spend a cool day outside of LA.

Our tour guide was Emily, and she did a wonderful job. She’s so knowledgeable and makes the entire tour super interesting with lots of fun facts. San Diego is beautiful, and this tour was the perfect way to explore the city and the surroundings. Don’t let the length of the tour scare you off, it’s not tiring at all and so worth it!
